Unit Extension Ideas

  • Play the telephone game with a short story and discuss how the story changed from the beginning of the circle to the end. Compare this to how legends have changed throughout the years.
  • Compare and contrast two versions of the same legend. What makes them different? Are they from different cultures?
  • If Setting has been introduced, students can illustrate the setting of a favorite legend.
  • Students can retell familiar legends with puppets.
  • If Character has been introduced, students can discuss the characteristics of the main characters in legends that are read aloud.
  • Students can write their own legend based on a family or school event.
  • Students can write a new version of a familiar legend.
