Plot 3rd Grade Unit
Lessons
-
As students read independently, have them:
-
analyze the conflict between characters.
-
complete Plot Graphic Organizers to identify the rising and falling action. (See Independent Practice for Lesson 4.)
-
Have students write about a conflict between themselves and another person. Students can write a description and explanation of the causes of the conflict.
-
Students can write a story that includes rising action leading to the problem and falling action leading to the solution. Have them brainstorm their ideas using a graphic organizer. (See Independent Practice for Lesson 4.)
-
Have students write book advertisements that show readers the rising action and problem in the story in a way that encourages readers to read the book.
-
As students read a book, have them keep a response journal for replying to the rising action, problem, falling action, and solution. They can also predict the solution in their journal and check their responses after finishing the book.
-
Provide students with the rising action and problem, or falling action and solution to the story. Have them use this information to write a story.
-
Students can watch a movie and fill out a graphic organizer with details of the characters, rising action, problem, falling action, and solution. (See Independent Practice for Lesson 4.)
-
After reading a book in Literature Groups, have students act out the conflict between the characters in the story.
