Part 1: “Ancient China – My Travel Journal in China Day 5”
Read the passage “My Travel Journal in China” out loud to your students. Alternatively, students can read the passage independently or as a group.
Question 1: What site in China did the author visit?
Sample student answer: The author visited the Forbidden City.
Question 2: The author wrote that the Forbidden City is now a museum and is an "amazing sight." Based on this evidence, why did the author travel to the Forbidden City?
Sample student answer: The author traveled to the Forbidden City to visit the museum and learn about the Forbidden City.
Part 2: Stone Soup
Question 3: What place did the monks visit?
Sample student answer: They visited a village in China.
Question 4: Why did the monks travel to the village?
Sample student answer: The monks traveled to the village to answer the question, "What makes people happy?"
Part 3: "My Travel Journal in China Day 5” and Stone Soup
Question 5: What did the monks and the author of the passage have in common?
Students answer (may vary and should include):

Question 6: The monks and the author of the passage all traveled in China. They all had reasons for traveling. How was the monks’ reason for traveling different than the author’s reason for traveling?
