- Provided: Example Venn Diagram, Independent Practice Worksheet
Not Provided: Toot and Puddle by Holly Hobbie, Sheila Rae, The Brave by Kevin Henkes, chart paper, markers

Teacher Modeling
will read aloud the first ten pages of Toot and Puddle by Holly Hobbie. I will compare and contrast Toot and Puddle using a Venn diagram. (Example Venn diagram is provided.)

Think Check
Ask: "How did I compare and contrast Toot and Puddle in the book?" Students should respond that you read the book and thought about what was the similar and what was different about Toot and Puddle based on the story.

Guided Practice
will continue to listen as I read the rest of Toot and Puddle. We will continue to use the Venn diagram to compare and contrast Toot and Puddle.

Independent Practice
will listen to Shelia Rae, The Brave by Kevin Henkes. You will identify similarities and differences between Shelia Rae and her sister Louise using a Venn diagram. (Independent Practice Worksheet is provided.)
TIP: Students will need access to the book to complete the Independent Practice.
